Competing for Canada took me further than I expected: Richmond, British Columbia; St. John's, Newfoundland; Edmonton, Alberta; Quebec; Montreal; Mexico City; Asunción, Paraguay; and San José, Costa Rica, with Kraków, Poland next this October. Standing across the mat from someone who grew up on the other side of the world, training in a completely different version of this sport, taught me more than winning ever did.

10 Years of Competing
Beyond learning how to work hard, karate taught me how to lose. It also taught me the real definition of commitment: twelve years in, over two-thirds of my life, and hundreds of hours in exchange for thousands of memories.
The best friendships don't always share a language.
Individual sports can still be team sports.
